COURSE EXPECTATIONS

I am very excited for the upcoming year of math! I want to help you experience success in the math classroom! In order to make that possible, it is important that you read, understand and respect the rules, consequences and policies of this classroom.

Classroom Rules

·       Be respectful to one another.
·       Only one person speaks at a time.
·       Raise your hand if you have any questions/comments.
·       Follow all school-wide rules.
o       No cell phones, no IPODS, etc.

Classroom Consequences

·       Verbal warning
·       Removal from seat or activity
·       Meeting after school
·       Detention
·       Phone call home
·       Removal to dean’s office

Classroom Policies

Entering the Classroom
·       You will begin working on the Do Now independently and quietly.

Leaving the Room
·       If you need to leave the room, you must ask for my permission.

Test/Quiz Protocol
·       During tests/quizzes, you are not allowed to talk. If you have a question about the test/quiz, raise your hand and wait for me to come to your seat. If you talk, your paper will be taken away, and you will receive a zero.

Making up work after an EXCUSED ABSENCE
·       When you return from an absence, it is your responsibility to find out the assignments you missed and make them up. It is also your responsibility to copy any class notes from a classmate.
·       To get credit for the work you missed, you must show me your homework within the number of days you missed. (Example, if you missed one day, you have one day to make-up the work.)
·       If you miss a test/quiz you have two days to take it (or the number of days you were absent, if longer).
·       If you do not make up homework, class work assignment, test or quiz in the allowed time after an excused absence, or if you have an unexcused absence, you will receive a zero on it.

Grade Breakdown:
The grade breakdown is as follows:
·       Homework and Class work: 30%
        o       Homework:
§  Homework will be given almost every night. The assignment will be posted on          the white board and on my website:  http://sch.ci.lexington.ma.us/~bowman.
§  For full credit, you are expected to attempt each homework problem and to            show all work.
§  Homework must be completed on time to receive credit (unless you have an             excused absence).
§  Longer assignments or projects may be assigned for homework as well.
        o       Class work:
§  Class work will be periodically collected or checked.
§  Notebooks will be checked periodically. The notebook will be graded based            on organization and completion of work.

·       Tests and Quizzes 70%
o       Tests will be given at the completion of a chapter or unit.
o       Large quizzes will be given as well. These quizzes will be announced in advance.
o       Short pop quizzes will sometimes be given at the beginning or end of class.
§  The weights of tests, quizzes and other assignments will be specified
individually based on the size and importance (for example, a half-period quiz          may count with one-half the weight of a full period test).
