Field Hockey
Varsity Coach: Mrs. Rolfe
Junior Varsity Coach: Sarah Smith
Practice for the fall of 2010 will begin Tuesday September 7, 2010 at 3:00 for all candidates. Teams will be selected tentatively Monday September 13, 2010.
There are two levels of play available for anyone interested in playing field hockey. The varsity program is a 5 day a week commitment. Athletes who cannot make the 5 day a week commitment can play at the jv level. The jv commitment is 3 days a week. Practice days for jv are determined by the coach dependent on the game schedule. There is a selection process for each team only if there are too many players to give all players adequate playing time.
This year, 2010, the varsity season begins Monday September 13 and will end around November 1. Most games are played on Monday and Thursdays. Game schedules will be distributed to all team members.
Information for both jv and varsity teams:
Practices end promptly at 4:30. All athletes should be picked up immediately after practice or have permission to walk home. Please be prompt. Coaches must stay until all players are picked up.
Game day pick ups will vary. On game days athletes will be able to call for their rides when their game ends. If it is an away game, we start calling when we are about 20 minutes from the school to give parents appropriate time to respond.
School rule regarding rides from off site games: If you want your child to get a ride home from an away game with another parent, your child must present a note to the coach stating that you give permission for the parent to transport your child. Parents can also write a note for the season, giving permission for specific parents to transport their child home from any/all away games. Athletes may go home with their own parent from any game.
Equipment:
Goggles: Specific to field hockey. They must have a ASTM sticker. The cage goggles work best. They are available at most sporting good stores and range in price from $25-$50.
Mouthguard: They must be colored. Clear mouth guards are not legal for play. Buy several. You cannot play without one and you will probably loose one or two during the season.
Water bottle
Cleats: Are strongly recommended, but not required. You will be less likely to slip when moving on the field than you would be in regular athletic footwear.
Shin guards: Knee length with ankle bone protection specific to field hockey.
Field hockey stick: Bring one if you have one. If you don't, don't buy one right away. You can use one of the school sticks until we know your correct size. Sticks come in various lengths. Proper sizing is determined by height, leg length, and arm length.
Change of clothes for practice
Required forms: Current physical on file with the school nurse, parent permission/release and waiver of liability form turned into coach, user fee form with appropriate form turned into coach after team selection.
