sample rubrics for open response questions

Here are rubrics for each open response question from the 2006 MCAS.
They appear on the DOE web site under scoring and student work.
Please notice that writing in complete sentences IS NOT a criteria even discussed in the rubrics.
Take a moment to review all strands and use these rubrics or create your own classroom rubrics using these as a guide.

Measurement Rubric

The student response demonstrates an exemplary understanding of the Measurement concepts involved in finding the areas of rectangles using grids. The student correctly determines the difference between the areas of two rectangles.

The student response contains fair evidence of an understanding of the Measurement concepts involved in finding the areas of rectangles using grids. While some aspects of the task are completed correctly, others are not. The mixed evidence provided by the student merits 1 point.
